A celebrant plans and officiates weddings and other ceremonies, working closely to ensure the ceremony reflects a persons values, preferences and unique story. With a wedding ceremony, it gives the couple freedom to choose the tone of the ceremony, customise vows and add special rituals, making the ceremony completely personal and unique.
Can a Celebrant legally marry me?
Good news! As a Marriage Officer with Celebrants Scotland, I can legally marry you anywhere In Scotland. This means the legal part of signing the marriage schedule will be performed at the actual ceremony. Not every celebrant can legally officiate, which means a couple would have to arrange to complete the legal part with the registrar before the wedding, so its always best to ask first before booking your celebrant.
Where can I get married?
Anywhere you wish! Be it a castle, hotel, garden, forest, field or even on top of a rugged Scottish hill! The choice is yours. I love the outdoors and am as happy dressed in wellies, as I am a pair of strappy heels!
How much does it cost?
See the current price list here or contact me for details.
What can I have in my wedding ceremony?
Be it traditional Scottish rituals, songs, readings, poems and personal vows, the list is endless! Want to profess your love in a Scottish sonnet or perform your vows rap style, absolutely! Its up to you! You can even have some religious content if you wish, like a bible verse or song.
With ceremony rituals, they are so many to choose, from traditional to the modern. Here are some examples of most popular rituals that you may like to incorporate in your ceremony:
Exchanging Rings The most popular ritual which can also incorporate special vows and a blessing.
Handfasting A traditional ritual where a couple's hands are bound together by cloth, resulting in 'Tying the Knot'. In Scottish history this would be done using clan tartan but any type of cloth can be used. A gorgeous ritual which isn't only meaningful but also a great photo opportunity!
Sand Ritual A lovely ritual and keepsake for after the ceremony, where you place different coloured sand together in a display 'blending' them together as one. You can even include children and other family members to the ritual.
Candle Lighting Ritual This is where you light a candle to symbolise unity of a couple. You can include children or even to remember loved ones. A visually beautiful ritual.
Drinking from a Quaich A toast to yourself at the end of the ceremony, drinking to your union from a traditional Scottish drinking vessel. Being Scotland, whiskey is certainly a popular choice, but you can have any drink you wish. Can also be a lovely keepsake, engraving the quaich with your names and wedding date if you wish.
You can have as many rituals as you want, or even none. Its your day, your choice.
Can I have my dog involved in the ceremony?
Yes please! I love dogs and all furry companions. I have lots of ideas on how to include them, so lets chat.
We want you to conduct our ceremony. What happens now?
Now here comes the best bit! Once booked, its now up to me to get to know you even more, to build your story, talk ideas and wishes for the ceremony and support you until the big day itself. We will have a planning meeting, which can be face to face, (my preference) or via video and I will send some fun homework for you to complete. I will then start writing your script and building your perfect ceremony! We will also have a follow up meeting closer to your ceremony date. I will be there throughout the process with advice and support and can always be reached to answer any questions you might have, ensuring all the legal parts are taken care of. I promise to make the planning as straightforward and stress free as possible, being a friend as well as your celebrant, and ultimately fun!
Contact me for a non obligation chat to find out more, get to know me, and chat how I can help create the ceremony you want.
